I dearly love the vengeful hero trope, so it's probably no surprise that the vengeful heroine doesn't do as much for me. This was entertaining, however. It had lots of fun tropes. The heroine was absurdly downtrodden in the beginning after being taken in by snobby family members after her parents' deaths. They force her to do the mending, wear hand-me-downs, and clean up dog puke while spoiling her bratty cousin. The hero inadvertently makes this worse when he comes to visit her family's home to s [...]

Let me just sayWoah! This was great! This little baby had so many twists and turns with angsty goodness that I'm going to be hard-pressed to find a decent follow up.We start with a dowdy Cinderella, complete with scrubbing the floors and polishing the family's shoes, while she's given nothing but rags to wear. The family (aunt, uncle, cousin-without the h who was left at home) had gone off on vacation, where the evil cousin met the H, and he subsequently came to visit. Upon seeing a picture of h [...]

Oh boy, this was fun. A better title: Revenge of Cinderella. Our heroine is the downtrodden, plain orphan who has lived under the thumb of her awful aunt and uncle and beautiful cousin for years. They work her to the bone, don't give her any money and call her a different name than the one her parents gave her. She falls in love with the hero after seeing his photo. When her cousin tells her that the hero prefers brunettes, she dyes her golden hair brown. Greek hero drops into to resume his holi [...]

As far as the revenge in this book goes, it was pretty lame. About the best thing was the blurb up there and the line in the book, "Revenge! The word spread in glaring capitals across her horizon; it filled the sky above her; it was all around her. She would bring this man to the dust!"Ha, I couldn't help but love the fact she saw the word "REVENGE" as though it were skywriting. All of the characters in this book were terrible. Dorian was not much of a fearsome man except that he incited a fearso [...]

Crappy story, didn't enjoy it at all. Was excited about heroine's revenge plot, very interested in her extreme deep hatred (cos most heroines are emotionally mushy about the heroes), but really turned into a flop for me. She was just dogged down the entire time by everybody. Very depressing. And he slept with her cousin like right after they met, I hate when heroes just fall into bed with OW like nothing. And also so unconvincing that he'd fall in love with her. She showed him nothing nice about [...]

Well hell! This was something new! Sometimes I found myself dying of laughter over how badly they treated each other. Our poor h starts the revenge taking first, but Jeez, did she really not know that giving our GREEK hero perpetual blue-balls wasn't the brightest idea ever?!Then our H, boy was he mad! There were times I think he could have murdered her. The one thing I didn't like was the abrupt ending. With about three pages left and the big revelation just being made, I was anxious and kept lo [...]

    Enjoyable revenge plot with angst.

Pretty good old HP with a revenge plot. This time the heroine is getting revenge on the hero. Of course it backfires and the hero, when he discovers what he thinks is going on, is pretty domineering and mean to her. Kept my attention and kept me turning pages. There were places where you could really tell this was an oldie. For example once the hero says, Enough it is that I have got you here. Seriously??? Maybe Yoda talks like that but I'd think that even in 1976 hot Greek guys didn't.Still a p [...]

It ought to be called A Woman to be Feared as this is one kick ass heroine. She takes no prisoners. The plot is Juliette/Emily, plain 16 year old orphan, is taken in by relatives and is turned into a Cinderella, rags and all. Her family is truly vile and over the top and deserve any and all retribution coming to them. They are so mean they won't call her by her real name but insist on calling her Emily, her middle name, as she is too plain to be a Juliette.Dorian, Greek god personified, comes in. [...]

"A Man to be Feared", which should have been called "The Picture of Dorian Coralis", is the story of Dorian and Emily/Juliet.After Emily's parents die, she lives in servitude of her uncle and aunt, as well as her cousin Tanya, while they treat her like dirt demanding servitude for housing her. Her life finds a flicker of hope when Tanya's boyfriend Dorian visits, and Emily (who likes to be called Juliet), falls for his picture, and then him, never having experience "love" before. When a stroll o [...]

Ok I really hated these characters as it was obviously a hate campaign from the start and of course the other woman he kept throwing up in her face. He basically tortures her for no real reason and she is just an easy target and continues to be his doormat until the end. No self respect and how exactly did she think she was going to get revenge when he always had the upper hand? I just did not get that part of the story. If you don't mind the verbal and physical abuse, read away. I would not rec [...]

4.5 starsAs Austin O'Malley says, "Revenge is often like biting a dog because the dog bit you.” and boy did it bite back in this book. The only reason it is not a 5 star is because she forgave him too easily at the end. She should have made him grovel.

(view spoiler)[ This was quite similar to Sally Wentworth's the Judas Kiss. Both the heroines were spurred by the desire to take revenge on the heroes because they have wronged them in some way in the past. However, the latter was much well written than the former. Juliet's plan to extract revenge from the hero, Dorian was rather weak and half baked. Also, the hero could never really convince me of his love for the heroine. The author didn't devote too much time to build up the relationship betw [...]

Maybe 4.5 stars, for the sheer old-school fun of it. As a lot of the other reviews have said, this is one of those great trainwreck-style older HPs where a lot of the fun is that it's completely unrealistic so you don't really have to take the characters' terrible actions all that seriously. Normally I might rate this kind of story 5 stars, but I have to say that I just can't get that into the plastic surgery romances. I can't get over the feeling that the romance isn't real when the heroine is [...]

the triumph of the underdog - in soap opera format; including plastic surgery,a scheming OW and revenge. This was a fast paced book and one I enjoyed reading although, some of the situations described seemed a little too contrived for me. Also, I found the ending a little abrupt and couldn't quite understand the hero's sudden realisation of love for the heroine after all the deceptions the heroine subjects him to. nonetheless, it was a fun read. 3.5*

A man to be feared !! A man to stay a mile away from would rather be more appropriate Not that I liked the girl too much either. Yes, she had a bad childhood, Cinderella like. And the hero met her while she was a gauche poor little girl and dint think too much of her. She swoons over his photograph !! He assumes she is of loose character because she comes across as too eager. Her adopted family true to the Cinderella theme are venomous people, they malign the girl, she runs away. But she doesn't [...]

this one was a real page turner! absolutely mind-blowing! i actually minused 1 star only bcoz the sex scenes were not described. however, thank god, their 1st time was not described! it was so horrible ! juliet was sobbing her heart out while dorian raped her. juliet was a master manipulator, she lied so much yet she wud describe herself as a bad liar,or some1 who did not like lies. the lil hyprocrite ! she was devious n a real bitch but dorian gave back as good as he got. he did not spare her. [...]

Oh how I despaired of every finding another HP with a plot like The Judas Kiss. At least, until this book came along. Although this book was actually published BEFORE The Judas Kiss, The Judas Kiss is still my favorite HP. This similar plot was still enjoyable. THE PLOT: The hero wrongs the heroine and ruins her life, the heroine is obsessed with revenge and goes from a plain girl to a beauty with the help of plastic surgery. The heroine then meets the hero again and plots her revenge with him n [...]

AMAZING ride full of heartbreak, intense angsty and cold-blooded revenge!I have never before read any book by this author, and i must say,her writing style is different to those i am used to,but she has the electric element of passion and beauty,of the way she describes intense scenes and presents exotic nature of Greece.Juliet Hardy and Dorian Coralis are extraordinary characters i both loved.Juliet being strived by revenge and Dorian who falls on her trap and fall madly in love with her.My favou [...]

I do not have the words to describe this book. It would get one star except for the sheer level of crack that is present. I cannot do justice to it, so I will maintain my shocked/awed/horrified silence.

Nice old HP with a revenge plot. Heroine is a real Cinderella. She falls in love with hero he kind of ruins her life and years later our fierce heroine is getting revenge on our poor oblivious hero. Enjoyable old book with great angst.

    Fre06 Begum

Good book and I liked the heroine until towards the end when she just suddenly turned all needy for him again.

    Mae Manongas

    An abrupt ending for me.

    Riva

Wow i really want to smack her. Childish and cry me a river heroine and unlikeable hero.

Que maldita familia le tocó a la pobre, se la pasan diciéndole malagradecida y egoísta, porque no agradece la tengan como una sirvienta.

    Rose

This is a pointless and boring collection of clichés.

if I had read this 30 years ago I might have given the book based only on the plot 3 stars I last two stars is more than generous
