My 7th & 8th grade students are actually *enjoying* reading this play right now which is nothing short of amazing, considering the groans I heard when it was announced. I wish we'd had these books when I was in school; the original text is on the left hand side, and a modern english/translated version is on the right. The only problem is that this copy was published in 1985; I believe there are more recent editions from different publishers (such as 'no fear shakespeare'), which would probab [...]

The contemporary English translation feature promises to make the play understandable to students, but the translator is so prudish that many of the baudier phrases didn't make it. What results are nonsequitur conversations on the right hand side. I get that this is for kids, but if they are not ready for Shakespeare's motifs, then why bother?

This book was very dramtic. The characters were brought out well. And I love the foreahadowing. It was amazing that ending was basically hinted at throughout the whole book. The characters had their own distinctive traits too, which I liked. I could tell which character was which based on how they said things. All in all, it's a pretty great book.

Very intense with the romance part. The book got interesting when the family's didn't like each othere only sad part is when juliet fakes her death and romeo kills him self just befor she wakes up and the she kills her self.

This is a classic Shakespeare play. This book combines the original language with the modern day English translation which will help the students understand the old English. Good book to use to teach retelling. The students can reenact the scenes.
