***3 "PADS" stars from me***PassionAttitudeDeterminationSacrificeI like the way Rey was thinking. His PADS approach was really interesting!!!But it's better to start talking and i have to start with KateKate was a journalist and she was sneaking as a waitress to Rey Doyle's casino because she wanted dirt for him!!! You see, Kate was seeking revenge from the notorious cazino king because except this work, he was the owner of an illegal secret fight club in which her baby brother get hurt very bad [...]
*I was provided a free copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for honest feedback.*This was a nice, sweet and quick read. The plot line was predictable, but still entertaining. The characters were likable enough and it delivers a HEA ending. All in all, not a bad choice to pass some time between more emotional reads. It was entertaining and touching, but didn't leave me feeling emotionally drained. I've never read anything by this author before, but would definitely do so again. Overall, I [...]
This copy kindly provided by NetGalley on behalf of the publisher. This is the kind of (short) story that a lot of authors like to split into a mini series, leaving the reader at a crucial point, making them wait for the next instalment. So straight up it was a positive for me that I actually had the entire story right here & now. Added to that it was dual POV (something I love), it was fun, quick & easy to read (nothing too heavy, which is great after a long tiring day), & had enough [...]
This was a quick little read. Nothing earth shattering, overly angsty, or disgustingly fluffy. Rey Doyle is a fighter who has transitioned into owning casinos. He still occasionally fights, and even runs an underground fight club. Kate's under age brother got hurt at the fight club and she's decided he needs to pay for it since he is the source behind it, so she goes undercover at the casino to get the info she needs to write a scathing expose. Here's Kate's problem, she quickly learns things ar [...]
I found this book an enjoyable easy read, it was the book equivalent to easy listening on a sunny Sunder afternoon. It was smoothly written with likable characters and had plenty to keep you interested without being too taxing. It was refreshing to finally read a romance that wasn't laden with smut just for the sake of it, but appropriately placed in line with the story. This book would be the perfect travel companion
**3.5 stars**I did enjoy this one. I really liked Rey's character, Kate's character was kind of just meh to me. The reason why this didn't receive a higher rating was I felt like nothing really happened. Kate tells Rey the truth about who she really is and why she's there and it was just a flat reaction.
"A Deal with the Devil" is my first Louisa George book. I was hooked right away with the burn between Rey and Kate. Kate thinks Rey is a bully, a Neanderthal, a man who solves issues with his fists. She soon finds out her assumptions are wrong. Rey is suspicious of Kate as she asks a lot of questions and is caught in an off limits area of his casino. Even tho neither really wants to be, they are very attracted to each other and it's not long before they become involved. I enjoyed the 2 POVs and [...]
A Deal with the Devil was a short, quick read about Rey and Kate. Rey grew up poor and fighting and as an adult he still fights, but now he's a very rich casino owner. He also runs an illicit fight club called No Surrender. Kate is a journalist who is working undercover in one of Rey's casino's. Her brother was gravely injured during a fight at Rey's club. She is bent on revenge. Doing whatever she can to get information on Rey, she haphazardly falls into Rey's lap. He needs to look like a famil [...]
I enjoyed my escape into Kate and Rey's world! Although the situation might not be realistic for most of us, it was fun to read about, and the feelings and emotions were very real!Kate's protectiveness towards her brother is believable, and how she reacts to his situation is believable. She loses a bit of perspective because she is so determined to seek revengebut she ends up finding so much more than she anticipated!I really liked Rey. His hot exterior hides a depth that few know. He works hard [...]
Copy provided by Netgalley This was a quick read. The were a lot of lies and pretense in the beginning. Kate was pretending to be a waitress to get dirt on Rey Doyle. He is the Casino King. He also runs an underground fight club. Kate's underage brother is seriously hurt during a fight. Kate blames Rey and wants to bring him down. When she gets close to him, she realizes that he is not exactly who or what she believes. Pretty predictable but entertaining. Not much as far a surprises or angst. Qu [...]
**My thanks to the author for providing me with a free copy for an honest review.**This is a fake girlfriend story that whittles away a few hours, but brings nothing new to the role.It was only an average read, but certainly would be good to read after a really emotional read where you need something to just coast along with. The plot was fairly predictable and being an Entangled romance we get a HEA, but as this is a short story/novella we do not get enough story to really identify with the char [...]
First reviewed at Keeper BookshelfIt’s said that revenge is a dish best served cold. That may be true, but how can anything stay cold around a hot alpha male like Rey Doyle. Certainly not Kate Wilkinson that’s for sure. She should be keeping her cool, remembering how he injured her brother, how she intended to bring him down as the sleazy, corrupt monster that she knew he had to be. How was she supposed to do that when she melted in his arms like an ice cream cone in the summer heat? She nev [...]
**I was provided an ARC from NetGalley for an honest review. I did not receive any compensation for providing my opinion.**3.5 stars…….A Deal with the Devil by Louisa George was pretty good. It wasn’t great and it wasn’t bad. I found that it was smack in the middle for me. It is very short and almost novella length. This made it a very quick read but didn’t allow for too much development to take place because there just wasn’t enough time. A Deal with the Devil is about Rey, an ex-bo [...]
So many secrets, deceit, and deception in this story. Is it right to accuse someone, do an expose on someone, if you do it in the name of revenge?I have mixed emotions with this story. Cause I think the bad boy Rey was more honest and open, within his lies, than Kate was with her deception, while seeking for her revenge. The story is dark, edgy, and dances on the borderlines of the criminal world, with gambling and fight clubs, deals, and justice by your own hand. But like saying, amongst all that [...]
A Deal with the Devil by Louisa GeorgeWhen the only thing worth fighting for is loveThere are two things ex-boxer and casino tycoon Rey Doyle is an expert in: fighting and gambling. He trusts no-one, but he needs a fiancé to help seal a business deal and part-time casino waitress Kate Wilkinson agrees to the pretense.Kate is on a mission to expose Rey Doyle for the pitiless criminal he is, but the more she learns about Rey and his past, the more she begins to admire the man. When the chance to [...]
Unfortunately, I have to DNF this one. I just couldn't get into this at all.The hero and heroine were both unbelievable - there was no depth to them. Nothing relatable at all. And I know that has nothing to do with the short length of this book. I read a lot of category romance and novellas. Depth and relatable main characters CAN be done in a very short story. It didn't happen for me here. Not only that, but the dialogue was pretty horrible.Including, and I quote, "Scream all you like, but no o [...]
Out for revenge, Kate Wilkinson will go as far as she has to in order to bring down Rey Doyle after her brother is seriously injured in one of his fight clubs. Kate goes undercover as a waitress at a bar in one of Rey’s casinos to get the real story on Rey and expose him for the illegal fighting he promotes. Rey learned early on in life to fight for what you want. Starting out as a boxer, he has worked hard for his money. He is now the owner of four casinos, two in London and two in Las Vegas. [...]
I had high hopes for this book since I was coming down from my high off of my previous novel which emotionally wrung me out. I have to say this book just didn't do it for me but I didn't struggle to finish it which speaks volumes. I give A Deal with the Devil 3.5 okay stars. I didn'tloveit but I didn'thateit. This book will be one of the ones I probably don't remember much about in a few weeks because it didn't pull strong enough emotions from me. Having said all of that, I did like the hero and [...]
*** ARC KINDLY PROVIDED FROM PUBLISHER VIA NETGALLEY - THANK YOU!!! ***well, this is a tough decision for me, but i guess i'd rate it somewhere between 2 and 3 stars. tendency to 2e first half of the book was only 1 star for me, it dragged on, while at the same time too much happened. but i guess that's the quirk if you want to put a multi-layered storyline into a short-story. i honestly had a very hard time getting into the book. it took me until about 70%. but then the book took a great turn. [...]
Another hit for me with the International Bad Boys!!This is book 6 in the multi-author collaboration published by Tule Publishing. All of these stories can be read as standalones and in no particular order. This story was kinda cute for me. We have a casino owner with more secrets than the CIA and a journalist posing as a waitress who's only goal is to bring said casino owner down. Yeah, sparks are gonna fly one way or another!!OK, so this isn't anything new that hasn't been written before, so th [...]
Another first for me reading Louisa George and her international bad boy Rex Doyle is trying to go on the path of the good. Surviving an abused childhood, he becomes an ultra savvy and successful businessman owing casinos. Ex-fighter and wanting to leave that life behind, he works hard, plays hard and is an alpha with a big heart.Kate has lost a lot in life, and she seems to have lost herself to avenging her brother’s current situation, and the author lost Kate’s character somewhere along th [...]
(This review is based on ARC e-book generously provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest opinion.)The author’s book synopsis of Deal with the Devil pretty much sums up the entire story. Though the writing seems to flow and there is sufficient character development to pull off the plot, the story lacks excitement/originality and is full of predictability. Towards the end, I definitely felt more sympathy than chemistry between the main couple. The hero’s character never [...]
Copy from netgalleyThis had the makings of being an amazing book, and I have to say I enjoyed it. It had a little bit of everything I love in a book, there was that darkness, love, drama and heat. It kept me reading so the story worked for me, even though I felt it just missedmething! I think it might have been the ending that threw me with this story. The beginning and middle of the story had lots of story building, getting to know the characters but the ending just kind ofhappened. I know that [...]
*** I received this book from NetGalley and the publisher in return for my honest opinion.***It was a short but sweet book. Girl set out on revenge for the monster that hurt her brotherd yet when she meets said monster he is anything but that. He is a complex individual with a dark past. While digging and pretending to be his long time girlfriend she learns the truth about him and it isn't long before she has fallen for him. But when he finds out her deceit it's almost unbearably sad for them bo [...]
What is it about bad boys? Maybe some women can't resist the allure because it makes them feel free and wild, maybe they think they can be the one to tame them or change themybe they want to fix them or protect themwhatever it is, books, TV, movies, we can't get enough of them. This book isn't going to change the world, but it does make one think about that old saying, maybe it was Confucius, but it goes something like, before you embark on a journey of revenge, dig two graves. Ms George has sho [...]
Received an ARC from NetGalley for an honest review. So much promise! Kate and Rey were great characters, but the story was not enough for them. The plot was haphazardly stuck together, making things work quickly to their advantage without any real explanation. Not to mention the fastest relationship I've ever seen with no real explanation of love. There is a lot of promise here, but it felt far too rushed. I needed to know more about No Surrender, more of Kate's backstory, and just more.
A Deal with the Devil and it's blurb gave me high hopes. I was looking for something to read while doing laundry and I have to say while I didn't struggle to read it I'm not sure it will hold my attention for long. I will say it does have hopes for more if it would have been longer. Something to give us more emotional attachment to the characters and their feelings. It was decent and I read it.
This one was just an okay read for me. Nothing really wrong with it, I just didn't connect with the characters. Pretty typical fake girlfriend story. Rey is looking to close a business deal and he needs to present himself as stable and rooted with a serious girlfriend. What he doesn't realize is that Kate has her own agenda. She wants to shed light on his criminal activity.
Really enjoyable short read. Kate's brother gets severally injured in an underground boxing fight. She is determined to expose the man who did this damage to her brother. Rey is a fighter who has raised himself from the streets. When the two of them meet an attraction develops and neither one of them are prepared for what happens next!!
Kate is a woman looking for revenge. Rey runs a fight club where her brother was seriously hurt. Kate doesn't anticipate the strong attraction to Rey. There is more to the man than boxing. This is a short story that has some intense scenes.
