The thing about new authors is that sometimes it makes me a little nervous. Wanna know why? First of all because I don't know their writting, if I'm going to like it or not and second because I don't know if the book will speak to me. Well so many questions invaded my mind but they were totally unnecessary. Violet Duke has a simple, intense writing that will hook you up from the first chapter. I know that this can be seen as cliche but it's the truth. Just find out why I'm saying this by grabbin [...]
Gah!!!Maybe I should take some time to digest this book before writing my review, but I don't think I can. I bought this book when it first released, but I waited to read until the second book was released and I'm so glad that I did. I don't think I would have survived the wait. Caine and Addison's story is so sweet, yet heartbreaking at the same time. Their friendship blossoms over the course of the book and when Addison's secrets catch up to her, she does what she has to do to protect her fami [...]
That endingWtf? This was such a good book, but that ending. No, no, no, no, no, no. I know it's supposed to pick up where they will get a happily ever after, but they won't get it for 7 years what the hell? That's a long time and a lot of things go down with other people in that time I'm sure. Being a firm believer in not sharing someone who's mine, I don't like books that do that. I mean it's possible Violet won't put others in the mix, but unlikely. I liked the book up til that ending, now I d [...]
2.5 stars - I gave it 3 because 2 just always seems harsh. Honestly, I'd like to go back in time and have this conversation with myself:PAST ME(upon finishing the free sample): Hmm, this is *okay*, not great, but the set up of the plot and characters has a lot of potential. Do I click "buy" and hope it pans out?PRESENT ME: What you see is what you get - it pretty much flatlines from the sample chapter on. It's not worth your dollars! Go find something on Kindle UnlimitedST ME: Wow, thanks Future [...]
Pretty goodThis book was a pretty good read. The story was interesting enough, I just couldn't get the feeling of any chemistry with the two.
Before That Night is the first installment of the Unfinished Love series by Violet Duke.
Note: There are four brothers and each brother will have two books (duets) in this series.Addison’s mother is a junky and doesn’t think twice when she goes on one of her conquest while leaving three kids behind. Addison being the eldest (18 in the beginning), takes on the responsibilities of caring for her younger siblings while putting her dreams on the back burner. For her, age doesn’t matter as lo [...]
Addison is doing her best to raise her younger siblings on her own, she is only 20, a college drop out, and her mother is a crack head, who leaves her and the kids, without any money, except her refund check from her first semester in college. She doesn't want her younger siblings to feel unloved and unwanted the way she did growing up with their mother. She is only 20 years old, and not old enough to be a legal guardian to her siblings as of yet, she can't afford an apartment for them yet eithe [...]
Addison is 18, almost 19, when he crackhead mother leaves her to raise her half-brother, Tanner - 12, and half-sister, Klyie - 6. She secures a job at a local diner and talks the own into allowing her to park her van in his lot overnight (because that's where she and her brother ans sister live). Addison guards her secret - that she is homeless and caring for her siblings - fiercely because she's afraid Social Services will take her siblings away from her since she's not yet 21.Caine Spenser is [...]

AHHHHI’m typing this as fast as I can right now so I can go and buy the second book. First off the story can be a little rough for some people because of content. Not that anything specific is bad but it could be triggering for those who have had similar situations. The book is very clean. I’m not sure if there was a single swear word so no worries about that. I totally love Caine and his masculine and alpha demeanor. And Addison was so sweet and did everything she could for her siblings. Iâ [...]
It was an okay read, The story plot was easy to follow with out confusionIt had a twistI would say a slow burn loveWhen the characters get together something happens which leads near the endIt is a quick readI went by reviews and the reviews made this series sound amazing , It was an okay read, not to much love, sweetness like I thought it would of been from the reviews, I wish more people would leave honest reviews , because I always read reviews before I purchase a book, I expected more from t [...]
Oh WOW! I want to say OMG! Followed by NOT LONG ENOUGH! Why? Because I could've continued reading this book forever. It is fantastic, I had finished books by my favourite author and was looking for a book as equally as good. I wanted a storyline that would grab me from the beginning and not let go. I wanted a romance that was realistic and characters that I'd love to learn more about. AND I got it in spades! If you too are looking for the same things in a book, then this book is as perfect for y [...]
This review is for both books. I agree with another reviewer when she said the story was "just OK and predictable". The first book was a little slow moving but then got better. I enjoyed the first book a lot better than the second. I didn't care for the seven year jump in book two, and the fact that neither of the main characters explored any sort of relationship whatsoever during those 7 years was too far fetched.
A well written romance with a strong hero and well developed characters, even the kids. Some might call this a cliff hanger, but I felt like there wasn't anywhere else to go with it. Skip the last page and you have a pretty defined HEA. If left me satisfied and I absolutely hate cliff hangers where you have to purchase the next in the series to find out what happens. I have no interest in the next book of this duet. But you might.
Caine & Addison Book 1I knew before I read the book that it was basically just part 1 with the ending in part 2. I had forgotten how much and why I dislike books written in series. It's well written but the story to me just stopped in the middle leaving me having to buy the end of the story.
NooooI want more!!!! I love I mean absolutely loved this story line. What would you do for your younger sister and brother? Anything. Addison is doing just that, when her druggie mom leaves them, even sleeping in their van and working night shifts. Everything is going great until Caine walks into their lives.
Different story line from the usual romance booksThis was a surprising story. Didn't end the way I expected and it ius a bit of a cliff hanger, I am anxious to read the next book in the series!
Love is this Omg what a great book. This is what love is. When you have nothing and you have to be a grown-up and forget your dreams to raise your siblings and Prince charming comes along and makes it amazing then she does the unbelievable
Good story can’t wait to read the next book. This was a very sweet story with a lot of turns. This is one of the few romance stories I have read, but I’m looking forward to many more after enjoying this story.
Just wow!!!I wasn’t expecting this book to be as good as it was. Just wow!!!! I loved this book and I’m not wasting any time getting the second book. I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone and everyone!!!
Two different booksIt was like two different books or characters. Caine seemed to change when things would get steamy. He was sweet and kind until there was kissing then he became bossy and intense. One didn't seem to fit with the other.
Fantastic This book was great from beginning to end. The story was great and held your interest from beginning to end.I only put it down when I had to.I would recommend it to anyone.
Good storyStory was good but it's part one, just saying!! I enjoyed the relationship build up and I was sad that the tale is not fiction anymore. Authors made up situations but Addisons is no longer a tale.
It was okIt was an ok book. I really enjoyed the first half but by about 60% through I got a little bored. Skipped maybe 2-3 chapters and just read the end. Not really interested in the 2nd book.
BeautifulThis story touches your heart when you realize their are so many older siblings trying to do the right thing when their parents fall down on the job. Addison was doing it, until someone became obsessed with her. Caine was a good cop who fell for her.
I really enjoyed the characters and storyline in this story, however some aspects felt pretty rushed. I would have liked to see the story drag just a slight amount. I'm not sure if I will continue the series or not.
It ended up being a pretty good book, although it started fairly slow and drug out, but it picked up steam in the last 75 or so pages. The characters are fairly well done and I will probably read the next book.
