A "kinda cute" and superlight read, but predictable and definitely nothing original. Stereotyped characters (the blonde dreamy one aka prince charming, the Manson-fan goth girl just to mention two; are you serious?), overindulgence on gardening stuff, unlikely fortunate events (hey, a baseball bat! Just when I needed one!) and a bit of Romeo & Juliet thrown into the mix to make the whole thing even cheesier. But there's worse: too many errors, including a "your" instead of "you're" (page 192 [...]
This was a great, quick read. It is fun fiction for anyone who practices magick or has an interest in the Craft. The mystery element of the story is good as well. To me it felt kind of like Sweet Valley High meets Charmed. The only reason I didn't give it five stars was because of the grammatical and spelling errors that pepper the book. Just little things like the word "Loose" where the word "Lose" should be.
Very goodI gobbled this little gem up in less than 24 hours and really enjoyed it. It's been a while since I've read a book I had a hard time putting down. I have read some of Ellen Dugans non fiction works so I was excited to check this out. It did not disappoint. I'm looking forward to the release of book 2 in the summer.
The story line wasn't bad, but I felt that the foul language that constantly comes from the girls' mouths was totally unnecessary and really detracted from the storyline.
Good but based on same Bishop family of witches from other authors. Still good if enjoy that topic.
This series is perfect summer reading! Super witchy (which y'all know is my favorite), easy to gobble up like candy, not too taxing on the brain, and serious fun with a cast of colorful characters. And while some of the magic is fantastical (is that a word?), it's all rooted in ideas that make a lot of sense from a modern witchcraft perspective. Good stuff!(My actual reading dates may be wrong. I forgot to record these).
Amazing! If you're into VD and all that good stuff, you'll love this. The characters are beautifully crafted. All with hilarious and sweet personalities. Loved that the story line had a good balance of negativity and positivity as well as realistic qualities. Would absolutely recommend to anyone interested in the genre!
Love, love, love this book. It's a must read.
I love all of Ellen's books. This is a great story about a witch coming into her own and I learned a few things right along with her. I will be reading the book that follows this one!
Good storyThe characters are interesting and the plot is, too. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
SeriesEnjoyed the first two books. Will read the complete series. First books by this author. Good read for a snowy day
Good readGood fun book with just the right elements of magick! Looking forward to the rest of the books in this series.
ReviewIt wasn't the best book I have read, but because of the subject and who is writing it, I will continue this series.
Fun, Enjoyed itThis is the first adult magician book I have read. It is interesting and fun. I enjoyed it a lot!
First book got me hooked and I had to read them all. Great series
Honest MagicA light read, full of emotion. Family and friends. Witches and magic. True to ancient traditions. Well worth reading. Enjoy.
I'm a big fan of Ellen Dugan's non-fiction books and so I was interested in reading her first fiction series. I thought that even though the book has characters that have a bit of supernatural abilities, the characters still seemed "normal". I did like the sarcasm and witty retorts in the book (that is what draws me to her non-fiction books as well) and the fact that as an author, she comes across as a person that I would love to share a cup of coffee (or wine)and chat with her. I'm looking forw [...]
Impressive!I have read and own several of Ms. Duncan's magkical books, so I was a little bit skeptical about reading her first work of fiction. The book impressed me!! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and look forward to the second book!! Nicely done, Ms. Dugan, nicely done! Kudos!!
Fantastic!!!I've been a huge fan of Ellen Dugan for years and was excited to find out that she had branched out into fiction. She did not disappoint! I loved the whole story and am going to purchase the second in the series right now!!! I highly recommend this book!
Was a little slow in the beginning. Could tell it was the author's first attempt at a fiction book. However, after a few chapters it began to pick up and was a great read. I can't wait to read the next one in the series!
The whole series is a fun, easy read. Not the great American novel, but well worth the price of entry and something that can be read and reread enjoyably. A couple of grammar errors that drove me nuts, but blame that on the proofreader/editor.
Nice readI have read Dugan's magic books, and surprised to see she had written fiction. It was a fun book. The magic was fictional and the love story was very contrived. The characters were interesting though.
Very fun and deceptively educationalCozy and fun story. Probably the only story I've read with witches that was accurate and not completely ridiculous and didn't make me want to roll my eyes. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
A fun readI really enjoyed this book. I've read her non fiction booksways enjoying the narratives and personal stories. This book is well done and a great start to the series.
Fun read! This was my first book by Ms. Dugan, I was pleasantly surprised. The story was fun, the characters engaging and believable. I would read more by this author and more in this series.
I am really enjoying the plot of this book but I am having a bit of trouble with the spelling. I am about half way through and have found at least four misspelled words. That's pretty sad.
Loved it I read it in just a few days I couldn't put it down. The way it was written made you feel like you were actually in it. Can't wait to read the next book. Blessed Be.
I loved this story. Ms. Dugan really sucked me into this story and I am looking forward to the next book in the trilogy.
Wonderful book and looking forward to the next one!!
Enjoyable and quick. The characters are well developed. Sad that I have to wait until June for Book 2.
