Confession: I met Julie this past October in Dallas at an author round table book event and I loved her energy, intelligence, wit, and the way she conversed with the group. So, this is not a formal review, only my impressions. That said, I enjoyed reading these three short stories. There is a wounded aura in each skeletal tale, which leads characters to action. And, these early tales point towards future work I hope will build on strength of character and descriptive power.
Real cool stories.
These stories are difficult to read, powerfully written, emotionally draining and awesome. Frayn’s writing is flawless. There is nothing with which I can find fault. Frayn gives us a glimpse into a world that might seem bleak but is not without heroes.I won’t give away anything about “Samburger and Flies” except that upon reaching the end I put my ereader down fighting a denial that I had read what I’d read. The book has three short stories. They are smart, and vey interesting. Julie is good choosing scenes, and characters. Nice time reading them!
Good stories with good twists. The only thing I can fault them for is being too short because they're so enjoyable.
